![]() I frequently shoot panoramas, focus stacks, aperture series, and sometimes frame averaging or various shot variations that all relate to each other (e.g., a particular location or sub-location). I wish I had thought of it.- SEND FEEDBACK Related: LibRaw, Lightroom, panorama I often find things impossible to find, just because I don't know the search terms I should be usingĮxcellent advice. ![]() Or googling will through up better search terms because you find the thing you are searching for, being discussed. Ridiculous as it sounds I often find googling will often find a page in an online manual more easily than searching the manual itself. Oh, you shall open XMP and Metadata window, click to gear icon and there will be sub-option for Auto-advance when you set Rating, Colour label or both. My biggest regret in moving to Mac is that Faststone Image Viewer is not available for Mac. Also, it is a free/shareware program that somehow is actively maintained. ![]() Foe example, they have a clone and heal function that is excellent and FastRawViewer and PhotoMechanic don't even dream of doing things like that. ![]() If you are on Windows, I found Faststone Image Viewer to be a great program for viewing, culling, and even moderate editing of photo files. I am not a rank beginner but I was looking for a more basic intuitive culling and importing app.Īs it is, I can't help but think that it is trying to be all things to all levels of expertise and sophistication. If FRV had a "Basic function" level that was a bit more intuitive to a reasonably computer literate user I think I would use it more.Īs it is, I can't help think that it is trying to be all things to all levels of expertise and sophistication. "Both FastRawView and PhotoMechanic to me suffer from a nerdiness in their design and interface, as though they are to be used primarily by their programmers rather than by people who have no interest in the program per se but only in using them for photography." It makes the program much quicker to use, which really is its whole point. How did you ever find it? I had searched in the manual (using Cmd/cntrl F) for various word combinations, including "move to next," but it didn't show up and I hadn't found it. Thank you for finding the answer for me (and for others) and also for the link. I didn't find it when I demo'd it years back. I never looked because I had no idea this was a feature. I had to search for it, because although I knew I had my copy set to auto-advance I couldn't remember how I did it Yep, both programs take a bit of learning, but. I found Adobe used to be like this, but I think they have been making major efforts to improve the useability of their interface. Both programs are very useful, but their settings are obscure. Yet it is a setting that many people would want to use.īoth FastRawView and PhotoMechanic to me suffer from a nerdiness in their design and interface, as though they are to be used primarily by their programmers rather than by people who have no interest in the program per se but only in using them for photography. And as far as I can find, it is not documented in the PDF manual for the program. They could hardly have hidden the setting better if it had been a contest to do so. In FRV if you go to the XMP metadata panel there is a preference icon between "XMP Metadata" and the X to close the panel, right click on it and you get options to "move to next file after". I will be very curious to see if somebody else has. I too use FRV and have never been able to find a way to do what you describe. ![]() Not a dumb question at all at least I don't think so. Just to be clear: I want to go through a folder of files and rate each one (e.g., 3 stars) which rating then triggers an automatic advance to the next file. How do I find it? (If it matters, I am working in filmstrip mode.) I can't find a way to do this in FastRawViewer. In PhotoMechanic, there is a simple way to rate an image in a folder of files and automatically advance to the next file. ![]()
